When it comes time to choosing a first dance, it’s easy to overthink it. For many couples, it becomes a bit of a sticking point when they can’t find a song the agree on, or one that has just the right lyrics. Here’s a couple of tips that may help you get past some of the hurdles.
Your guests won’t remember the lyrics: If you love the song, use it. If it’s your song, it doesn’t matter what the guests might think. None of them will be so offended that they leave the reception in disgust, and ten minutes later they probably won’t remember that the lyrics seemed inappropriate (in their opinion). The guests could hear the song on the radio when driving home and not recognise it, but you’ll remember how special the song was when you hear it on your tenth anniversary. It’s your wedding, your song.
- Change the words: If you are still a bit nervous about some of the lyrics, have the song edited – remove a verse or shorten the song up. Alternatively, use an instrumental version of the song as a compromise – same sound, less song.
- You don’t have to use the entire song: Dance for ten seconds if you’re nervous, and have your MC invite the rest of the guests to join you. Chances are you will feel more at ease when you don’t have the entire floor to yourself.
I hope this helps!
